The Madgwick Family has a long history of working with horses dating back to the mid 1800’s with Robert Madgwick victualler of The Swan Coaching Inn, Alton, supplying carriages for coaching, funerals and charabancs and my grandfather William Madgwick followed by my father Sid Madgwick in Portsmouth with many horses working in the streets of Portsmouth, delivering fruit & vegetables or coal as an example, operating from my Grandfather’s stables in Staunton St, just as a modern day logistic company using lorries. Back in 1976 it seemed a logical step for me to make available the selection of carriages and horses at the family stables which by then were based at Denmead for weddings and all occasions followed later by the Funeral Services, it is this history and experience that few carriage companies in the UK can match.

At Madgwicks we do not use any old horses! It has always been my aim to offer the finest horses which is why l have travelled to Spain & Holland to source White Andalusians and Black Friesian Stallions which l imported as young, untrained 2/3 year olds, and schooled myself to ensure the best quality horses for those very important occasions in life such as a wedding or funeral.
